ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The country’s eighth-largest school district, San Diego, made a concerted, wide-ranging effort to raise student reading levels. Julian Betts will discuss the results of a comprehensive study of this experiment, including what worked, what didn’t—and what knowledge school districts elsewhere can take away.

This study was supported with funding from the Donald Bren Foundation.

Julian Betts is chair of the department of economics at the University of California San Diego, and an expert in student outcomes and measures of school spending.
