Kurt Schwabe

Kurt Schwabe is an adjunct fellow at the PPIC Water Policy Center and professor of environmental economics and policy at the University of California, Riverside. He is also an adjunct professor with the Center for Global Food and Resources at the University of Adelaide, Australia. His university research has focused on economic issues associated with water use, agricultural production, urban water conservation, ecosystem services, and environmental regulation. His papers have appeared in a wide range of peer-reviewed publications, including Nature Sustainability, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Resource and Energy Economics, Land Economics, and Economic Letters. He is the recipient of the 2023–24 Fulbright Distinguished Chair Fellow for Science, Technology, and Innovation in Australia; the 1996 Kenneth R. Keller Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research; and the 2007–08 Flagship Fellowship at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Australia. He also serves on the board of directors of Feeding America Riverside. He holds a PhD in economics from North Carolina State University and an MA in economics from Duke University, and he double-majored in mathematics and economics at Macalester College.
