Marilyn Sutton

Professor Emeritus

California State University, Dominguez Hills

Marilyn Sutton is professor emeritus in English literature at California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she has taught for more than 30 years. In addition to serving on the PPIC Higher Education Center Advisory Council and the board of Public Media Group, she is a trustee of the UCI Foundation and a life trustee of Southern California Public Radio. She has served on the boards of Loyola Marymount University and Claremont Graduate University and on the Humanities Dean’s Advisory Council at the University of California, Irvine. She also served as a member and as chair of the WASC Senior Accrediting Commission. In 2002, she was named Distinguished Alumna by Claremont Graduate University. She earned the Distinguished Teacher award in 1980, was named a Danforth Fellow, and regularly served in central academic governance rolls. She holds a PhD and an MA in English—with a secondary focus on theology—from Claremont Graduate University. She earned her BA at St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto, where she studied English and French.
