Kim Belshé

Kim Belshé is executive director of First 5 LA. Before she joined First 5 LA in 2012, she was senior policy advisor at the Public Policy Institute of California. From 2003 to 2011, she served as secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency. She has held a number of other leadership positions in state government, including director of the Department of Health Services and deputy secretary of the then–Health and Welfare Agency under then-governor Pete Wilson. She has also worked for the James Irvine Foundation and other California philanthropies. She currently serves on the five-member board of Covered California, the state’s health benefit exchange, and is a member of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured. She is a native of San Francisco and holds a master's degree in public policy from Princeton University and a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College.
