Statement Of The PPIC Board Of Directors On The Retirement Announcement Of President And CEO David W. Lyon

SAN FRANCISCO, California, December 8, 2006 — President and Chief Executive Officer David W. Lyon has announced his intention to retire as of June 30, 2007. The board of directors accepts this news with regret – and with gratitude for David’s 12 years of remarkable service to the Public Policy Institute of California.

In 1994, after a nationwide search, PPIC founders William Hewlett and Roger Heyns chose David Lyon to build and lead PPIC into the 21st century. As the institute’s first President and CEO, he was faced with the challenging task of building the institute from the ground up. Today, PPIC is recognized statewide and nationally as a premier source of information and analysis for those who make and influence policy in the state and for its unparalleled ability to make Californians aware of and concerned about the critical policy challenges we face.

“The board is extraordinarily grateful to David for his leadership,” said Thomas C. Sutton, chairman of PPIC’s board of directors. “PPIC has fulfilled the vision of its founders and its mission of improving public policy in California in large part because of his dedication, intellectual insight into policy issues, and effective management.”

David Lyon will continue his association with PPIC, serving as Founding President Emeritus for two years following the date of his retirement.

The board of directors will meet in January to determine its recruitment process for the position of President and CEO.
