George Kieffer

George Kieffer is a partner in the national law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, and a regent of the University of California, where he chairs the Committee on Finance. He formerly served as a member of the Commission for Review of California’s Master Plan for Higher Education. A former chair of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors, he currently chairs the Los Angeles Civic Alliance and serves on several commissions and boards of directors. He was the chair of the commission tasked with rewriting the Los Angeles City Charter adopted in 1999. He is the author of The Strategy of Meetings (1998) and a contributing author of Governing Public Colleges and Universities: A Handbook for Trustees, Chief Executives, and Other Campus Leaders (1993). He is also a composer. His “Fanfare for the Special Olympics” played at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles. He earned his law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law.
