Ken Baerenklau is an adjunct fellow at the PPIC Water Policy Center and associate professor of environmental economics and policy in the School of Public Policy at the University of California, Riverside. He has worked on a variety of water policy issues. Representative projects include designing cost-effective policies for reducing nitrate emissions from dairy farms to groundwater in California’s Central Valley; designing a bidding mechanism to promote decentralized urban stormwater capture by private landowners; assessing the impact of water quality on beach recreation; estimating the non-market benefits of restoring the Salton Sea; estimating the effects of allocation-based tiered pricing on residential water demand; and multiple ongoing projects related to urban water pricing and conservation incentives. He holds a PhD in agricultural and applied economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
