Joseph Pon is vice president of communications and public affairs at Applied Materials. From 2009 to 2012 he was vice president of programs at The James Irvine Foundation, overseeing all of Irvine’s philanthropic grant-making. He began his career at Applied and held a number of communications, government relations, and corporate marketing positions over the next several years, including vice president of corporate affairs and head of worldwide government affairs and executive communications. He is a senior fellow at the American Leadership Forum, Silicon Valley. While he was attending graduate school in London, he served as an Ambassador Scholar for Rotary International. He holds an M.S. in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College, with a double major in Russian/Soviet studies and psychology.
