About the Program

California educates more than 6 million children in its K–12 public schools, and education is by far the largest area of state spending. Recently implemented reforms—including the Common Core standards and the Local Control Funding Formula—aim to improve student outcomes, but significant challenges remain. Join us for a conversation with the candidates for state superintendent of public instruction about their visions for public education in California.

As part of our Speaker Series on California’s Future, PPIC is inviting all major candidates in selected statewide races to participate in public conversations. The purpose is to give Californians a better understanding of how candidates would approach the challenges facing our state.
