about the program
The growing public distrust of government has led state and community leaders from both parties to recommend a variety of reforms to California’s electoral and governance systems. Reform is complicated, however, by the powerful interests and the high stakes involved in any changes to the rules for electing and governing. As a result, many reform proposals in recent years have been tried and rejected. Four senior statesmen and legislative veterans will discuss the need for political reform and explore some options designed to improve the state’s decisionmaking process.
