ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This month, California launched a historic restructuring of its public safety system that shifts responsibility for more than 30,000 low-level offenders from the state to the counties. This event will explore the conditions that led to the change and the challenging issues ahead. David Lesher, PPIC's director of government affairs, will moderate a discussion with Matthew Cate, secretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Elizabeth Howard Espinosa, legislative representative, administration of justice, California State Association of Counties, Dean Misczynski, PPIC adjunct policy fellow, and Karen Pank, executive director, Chief Probation Officers of California.
