Joseph Pon is vice president of communications, public affairs, and workplace at Applied Materials. From 2009 to 2012, he was vice president of programs at the James Irvine Foundation, overseeing all philanthropic grantmaking. He began his career at Applied and held a number of communications, government relations, and corporate marketing positions over the next several years, including vice president of corporate affairs and head of worldwide government affairs and executive communications. He is a senior fellow at the American Leadership Forum, Silicon Valley. While he was attending graduate school in London, he served as an ambassador scholar for Rotary International. He holds an MS in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA in Russian/Soviet studies and psychology from Claremont McKenna College.
