Statewide Survey: Californians and Their Government

About the Program
PPIC's latest survey examines Californians' views on President Donald Trump, the US Congress, and the Supreme Court—as well as their preferences on immigration policy, climate change, and abortion. It also looks at attitudes toward state elected officials, the governor's budget proposal, and transportation funding. PPIC researcher Dean Bonner will outline these and other key findings.

PPIC's latest survey looks at Californians' opinions on climate change and state policies aimed at addressing it, including the landmark AB 32. It also examines views on energy policy, air pollution, and water—as well as the November election. PPIC researcher David Kordus will outline these and other key findings.

PPIC's 12th annual statewide survey on Californians and K–12 education tracks opinions on educational quality and inequity as well as state and local school funding. It also examines views on early childhood education, the state's new academic standards and assessments, and the Local Control Funding Formula. PPIC researcher Lunna Lopes will outline these and other key findings.

California’s Exclusive Electorate

About the Program
Only half of California adults can be expected to vote in this year’s presidential election, and they are likely to be very different from those who do not vote—in their demographic and economic backgrounds and in their political attitudes. PPIC president and CEO Mark Baldassare will outline the findings of a new report, California’s Exclusive Electorate: Who Votes and Why It Matters. A panel of experts and leaders will discuss the challenges of improving participation in elections.

About the Program
PPIC president, CEO, and survey director Mark Baldassare will have a conversation with John Myers, senior editor of KQED's California politics and government desk, about the findings of PPIC’s latest survey.

The survey looks at Californians' views of the drought and the state's response to it. It also gauges support for the governor's revised budget and his proposed state Earned Income Tax Credit, as well as several tax proposals.

Over the past 20 years, voter turnout in California has been slipping. The state is struggling with a gap between those who vote and the rest of the population. Join us as we focus on the reforms that are under way—and others California should consider—to reverse these troubling trends. The event will begin with a conversation between PPIC President Mark Baldassare and Secretary of State Alex Padilla, followed by a panel discussion with experts and elected leaders.

About the Program
After years of economic turmoil, California has entered a period of reform and reinvention. Electoral innovations, major changes to our corrections and health care systems, and renewed leadership in climate and energy policy—these changes will affect the lives of all Californians. Will they result in a better future for the Golden State? This December, as California's newly elected leaders develop their policy agendas for 2015, the Public Policy Institute of California will host a wide–ranging discussion about the future Californians want and the policy choices needed to achieve it.
