Ivan Penn is an energy correspondent for The New York Times, based in Los Angeles. Prior to his role at the Times, he reported for The Miami Herald, The Baltimore Sun, The St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay Times and The Los Angeles Times, covering local and state governments and criminal justice. Among his numerous honors, he was twice a finalist and a one-time winner of the Gerald Loeb Award, the highest honor in business journalism, administered by the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management. His career began in 1992, after earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park. He holds a master’s degree in global leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary and was a John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University.
