Business Regulations and Business Starts in California

Virtual Event

January 29, 2026 · 11:00 am - 11:40 am

About the Program

Many see California as a state that burdens business with regulations. But is this reputation deserved? David Neumark, UC Irvine professor and PPIC adjunct fellow, will present findings from a new report examining the number and restrictive nature of California’s regulations and their effects on business launches; Sarah Bohn, director of PPIC’s Economic Policy Center, will join Neumark to discuss key takeaways and answer audience questions.

This research and event are supported with funding from Blue Shield of California Foundation and the James Irvine Foundation.
