Ryken Grattet is an adjunct fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California and professor and chair of sociology at the University of California, Davis. He was a PPIC research fellow from 2012 to 2017, and he continues to co-lead the institute’s collaboration with the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) and several counties, known as the BSCC–PPIC Multi-County Study. This data collection and evaluation effort is designed to estimate the impact of realignment on recidivism and identify effective local recidivism reduction strategies. He has also served as assistant secretary of research in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He is the co-author of Making Hate a Crime: From Social Movement to Law Enforcement, Parole Violations and Revocations in California, and numerous articles in professional and policy publications. He holds a PhD in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
