Happy 2026 to you all—it’s a new year and a new opportunity for a fresh start. Californians may be particularly eager for change, given the gloomy outlook expressed in our recent statewide surveys. We’ve heard real, ongoing concerns about the economy, the cost of living, and the functioning of democracy itself.
Fortunately, it’s an election year—Californians will be able to weigh in on these concerns and to let our leaders know the direction we want our future to take. At PPIC, we’ll be focused on providing essential facts and analysis to support this foundational democratic process. Our nonpartisan approach is especially important during election season, when the public conversation reaches peak contentiousness. Rather than get drawn into the fray, we remain dedicated to letting the facts speak for themselves.
Moreover, one of PPIC’s core tenets is that we do not advocate—not for ballot measures or for candidates. Instead, our work is aimed at identifying practical solutions—no matter what side of the aisle they may be associated with. At a time when we are all overloaded with information—and misinformation—our commitment to objective, evidence-based policy work feels more important than ever.
Ultimately, we want to help ensure that our elected officials—especially our newest leaders—are well-equipped to make informed decisions in turbulent and, frankly, divisive times. To that end, in the months ahead PPIC will be sharing high-quality, data-driven, evidence-based work on a variety of key topics—from California’s changing population to its economic outlook. Our public opinion surveys will take the pulse of state residents and likely voters on a range of election choices and other timely issues. And during this election year—the 250th year of our nation’s founding—we’ll be providing civic education tools to the state’s high school students, our next generation of voters.
Just as our political world is in a state of transition, so is PPIC. In San Francisco, we’ve moved into beautiful new offices thoughtfully designed for the hybrid work era. In Sacramento, we’re preparing a move to a larger new space. We’ll be sharing more details soon.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to those who make our work possible—we truly cannot do it without you. We are grateful for your support and look forward to productive partnerships in the year ahead.
The new year invites us to make new beginnings. And we invite you to join us—throughout the year—by keeping up to date with our activities, sharing your ideas, and offering your support.
Wishing you all the best in 2026!
